HN Automotive, Inc. (HNAI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi Metals America. HNAI has three locations, headquarters and manufacturing located in Effingham, Illinois, an additional manufacturing location in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania, and a sales and engineering office in Novi, Michigan. As of January 2006, HNAI employs 130 people in its Effingham operation, 72 at Wellsboro and one in Novi.
HNAI specializes in precision machining and assembly for the OEM automotive industry. HNAI's product mix consists of suspension components, exhaust manifolds, and brackets. HNAI's customer base includes: Ford, Chrysler, General Motors, BMW, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi, and Honda. As an automotive supplier, HNAI must meet stringent Quality, Environmental and Business objectives. To demonstrate the ongoing performance towards these objectives HNAI Effingham has been certified to ISO 14001, ISO/TS 16949 and Ford Q1 status. HNAI Wellsboro has been certified to ISO 9000.
The primary manufacturing activities performed at HNAI are CNC machining of ductile cast iron, HiSiMo, and aluminum castings to the precise dimensions required by the automotive industry. Once parts are machined to size some light assembly is performed. Typically, this assembly requires the pressing in of bushings, bearings, ball joints, threaded studs, clips, and dust covers.
